Veterans: Launch a New Cybersecurity Career

Veterans who have served and protected the Nation are well-positioned to transition into much needed jobs. To celebrate National Military Appreciation Month, DHS released the Veterans Cybersecurity Training and Education Guide to help veterans enter this rewarding career field.

Did you know that cybersecurity professionals report an average salary of $116,000? That’s nearly three times the national average. The demand for cybersecurity experts is growing 12 times faster than the current U.S. job market, making cybersecurity one of the most highly sought-after careers in the country.

Our nation needs more cybersecurity professionals in every sector and in every region. That’s why the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is offering you a variety of resources including:

FREE training— veterans can access free cybersecurity training through the Federal Virtual Training Environment (FedVTE).

Cyber-related degree programs—veterans can explore academic programs offered through the National Centers of Academic Excellence (CAE).

Information on scholarships—veterans enrolled in selected cybersecurity academic programs can apply for scholarships in return for government service through the CyberCorps®: Scholarship for Service (SFS).
