Prerequisite: CSIA 350. A study of cybersecurity management and governance in the context of the missions, functions, and operations of federal, state, and municipal government agencies, departments, and programs. Discussion covers the policy life cycle and the mechanisms used by governments to formulate and implement laws, policies, regulations, and treaties to protect and defend government operations and society as a whole against cyber attacks and crimes, both foreign and domestic.

Learning Objectives

After completing this course you should be able to:      

  • Explain the importance of laws, regulations, and policies for cybersecurity management and governance at the federal, state, local, and international levels
  • Discuss and evaluate the benefits and risks of technologies used to implement digital government initiatives
  • Select and evaluate appropriate security architectures, security controls, and other risk management activities to protect government programs and initiatives from cyber attacks, cyber crimes, and other forms and sources of cyber threats
  • Evaluate the benefits and risks of government led, policy-based efforts to improve cybersecurity
