Course Description

Virtual networks offer the flexibility of any topology and aren't constrained by cable bandwidth limitations. This course covers the configuration of virtual networks in VMware vSphere 6.5 including VLANS and virtual switches.

Learning Objectives

Define vSphere Networking Concepts

  • start the course
  • identify how vSphere networking fits into the larger networking architecture
  • recognize the ports used in standard vSphere traffic
  • describe how VLANs segment traffic and why this may be desired in a virtual environment
  • identify the purpose and settings of an ESXi standard switch
  • identify the purpose and settings of an ESXi port group
  • identify the purpose and settings of an ESXi VMkernel adapter

Configure vSphere Networking

  • create a vSwitch
  • create a port group
  • create a VMkernel adapter
  • connect a virtual machine to the correct port group for network access
  • create and deploy a distributed vSwitch

Practice: Configuring a Virtual Network

  • create a standard vSwitch with appropriate port groups and VMkernel adapters based on business needs in the vCenter Web Client
