This course is available as a Best Practices course or a customized course that accommodates agency-specific policies and security requirements.
This half-day course provides training for System Owners on information assurance and security best practices. It also covers the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) guidance for role-based training that will assist System Owners in performing their jobs. The course offers many large and small group activities to discuss System Owner issues in a safe environment. The training features checklists and job aids, as well as scenario-based problem-solving exercises.
Demonstrate an understanding of information assurance and security, risk management, and the role of the System Owner within the Certification and Accreditation process
Determine the information system's security category by assessing the potential impact on an organization resulting from the loss of availability, integrity, or confidentiality of its information
Identify, monitor, and assess security controls to mitigate and manage risk following NIST Certification and Accreditation guidelines
Perform specific System Owner tasks identified in the Risk Management Framework (RMF) that will support the system authorization of federal IT systems
